Welcome to our Primal Kitchen Buffalo Sauce review!
After reviewing the leading provider of keto-friendly sauces and condiments as a whole, we’re launching separate investigations into several of their products as a way of confirming the superior taste and quality we experienced.
Primal Kitchen Buffalo Sauce is no exception, following up an unapologetic wave of tangy heat with vibrant peppery flavor.
If you’re looking for a rich and spicy keto-friendly sauce that you can shellac all over your next meal without sweating the preservatives and added sugar (though you might sweat for other reasons), then we highly recommend Primal Kitchen Buffalo Sauce.
Here’s how Primal Kitchen earned an A for their Primal Kitchen Buffalo Sauce.
The tangy, yet smooth hit of heat comes without the guilt of breaking your diet, because Primal Kitchen Buffalo sauce is keto friendly, Certified Paleo, and Whole 30 Approved.
Ingredients: Cayenne Pepper Sauce (Aged Red Cayenne Peppers, Distilled Vinegar, Salt, Garlic, Pumpkin Seed Butter, Avocado Oil, Organic Garlic Powder, Organic Paprika
Grade: A+
With absolutely zero additives to hide, this 100% clean ingredient list featuring organic, plant-based ingredients fits right into our model for an A+.
Here is the full ingredient list for Primal Kitchen No-Dairy Buffalo Sauce:
Cayenne Pepper Sauce (Aged Red Cayenne Peppers, Distilled Vinegar, Salt, Garlic), Pumpkin Seed Butter, Avocado Oil, Organic Garlic Powder, Organic Paprika.
First crediting the sauce for what it doesn’t contain, the complete lack of added sugar, dairy, and preservatives provides a major bump in the ingredient quality department.
Opting for avocado oil and pumpkin seed butter instead of pro-inflammatory seed oils also provides a health-affirming boost to the fat profile.
As detailed in depth by this article from Saint Tomas University in Chile, avocado oil has “a high content of monounsaturated fatty acids (69.4%) and a lower amount of polyunsaturated and saturated fatty acids, which were 16.6% and 14%, respectively.”
The potential health benefits of the organic garlic powder and organic paprika include cholesterol and high blood pressure reduction, antibiotic effects, strengthened immunity, cancer risk reduction, and more.
Considering what’s in the ingredient list and what isn’t, we found absolutely no room for deductions in the case of Primal Kitchen No-Dairy Buffalo Sauce, which earned an A+ for ingredient quality and nutritional impact.
Grade: A
At no point in our experience ordering, unpacking, and using this product did we notice any hitches, resulting in an A for overall user experience.
Primal Kitchen No-Dairy Buffalo Sauce comes in a clear glass container with a threaded lid, neither of which gave us any trouble throughout our use of the product (save for a minor issue explained below).
The sauce runs on the thicker side, which is unsurprising, considering the pumpkin seed butter.
The first thing that stuck out to us in the taste department was the extra-strong hit of vinegar, but the cayenne pepper flavor was still very bold and not watery at all.
The overall taste was excellent; we would likely not be able to tell that this is a “keto-friendly” or “healthy” product in a blind taste test, and our palettes weren’t thrown off by the lack of added sugar at all.
The spiciness level is perhaps a bit above the “medium” mark, as it is labeled, but not by much—it’s just enough to rise above the watery and disappointing alternatives we’ve all had.
The one minor complaint we have is that, given the thickness of this sauce, it tends to take a long time to come out once you invert the bottle (especially after being refrigerated), sometimes resulting in a big “glop” where you wanted more of a drizzle.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the taste, texture, and heat level of this sauce, and found ourselves looking for excuses to use it, so it’s an A for user experience.
Grade: A
Without announcing ourselves as reviewers, we received prompt and professional responses from Primal Kitchen customer support, and their shipping and return policies are fairly generous.
Drawing from our experience with Primal Kitchen customer service during the brand review process, we award Primal Kitchen an A for brand experience for the following reasons:
Hold times for the phone support service were very short, and the customer support agent dedicated a lot of time to thoroughly answer our questions without rushing us at any point.
We shaved off a few points, however, for the fact that Primal Kitchen doesn’t cover shipping costs on returns, and they do not offer protection for lost, stolen, or damaged packages.
Overall, all of our interactions with the brand’s customer service department were definitively positive, so we’re sticking to an A for brand experience.
Grade: B+
It’s no secret that Primal Kitchen Buffalo Sauce is expensive, but the irrefutable quality does much to justify the premium.
As it usually goes with premium products, we are tasked not with determining whether or not the product is expensive, but whether this added expense is justified.
We don’t put too much stock in comparisons across brands because there are usually too many variables to make accurate comparisons, but they can at least provide some general context.
Primal Kitchen No-Dairy Buffalo Sauce is available on the site for $0.94/oz ($7.99, 8.5oz bottle) and most comparable competitors charge closer to $0.70/oz, as is the case with New Primal Mild Buffalo sauce, for example ($8.45 for 12oz).
As usual, the much larger wave of undercutters hang out in the $3-$6 a bottle range, but considering high fructose corn syrup is very often the first ingredient, we wouldn’t call them a good value even at $1.
Balancing the importance of the use case of Primal Kitchen Buffalo Sauce (major loyalty from the keto crowd), their use of much healthier fats, and the complete lack of preservatives with their “premium even for premium” price, we’ve arrived at a grade of B+ for value.
Every Primal Kitchen sauce will have a “best by” date printed on the bottle, but Primal Kitchen recommends using the entire product within 60 days of purchasing for the best experience.
Yes, Primal Kitchen Buffalo Sauce is completely vegan.
When it’s pumped full of high fructose corn syrup and other additives, buffalo sauce can be unhealthy, but Primal Kitchen’s Buffalo Sauce offers a completely clean ingredient list.
Our review team did not experience any significant taste or texture differences between this sauce and any non-keto-friendly buffalo sauce, save for the normal, subtle differences always experienced between one brand of sauce and another.
All averaged, Primal Kitchen No-Dairy Buffalo Sauce earns an A.
A perfectly clean and keto-optimized ingredient list complements a bold and satisfying flavor.
Ordering, receiving, and using the product was seamless, and all related interactions with Primal Kitchen customer service were quick, informative, and positive.
Your commitment (or lack thereof) to keto may determine how justified you deem the premium price to be, as keto people don’t necessarily have the pick of the litter when it comes to sauces—it’s expensive, but likely worth it to most keto dieters.
Though none of our reviewers are currenty on the keto diet, we thoroughly enjoyed the sauce, and have continued to buy more bottles after the review period.
As such, we will continue to recommend Primal Kitchen No-Dairy Buffalo Sauce to anyone looking for a tasty buffalo sauce that cuts zero corners on quality.
The tangy, yet smooth hit of heat comes without the guilt of breaking your diet, because Primal Kitchen Buffalo sauce is keto friendly, Certified Paleo, and Whole 30 Approved.
