Standout Keto Brands at Expo West 2022

SHARE

Keto is already daunting enough for many first-timers without the added woes of subpar food choices, which is why we highlighted brands that are doing it right at Expo West 2022.

If you’re picturing dry and super grainy bread, underwhelming sweeteners and chalky keto bars, these brands provide a breath of fresh air with delicious, totally keto-friendly options.

As usual, we only featured brands from Expo West 2022 that stay away from cheap fillers and artificial ingredients.

Perfect Keto

“We’ve got a full line of products all for the keto lifestyle.”

David Hauser, Chairman of the Board at Perfect Keto

Here to blow the whistle on the diet food industry for all of its sneakily inserted, not-so-great ingredients is Perfect Keto, a brand established in 2016 that sells keto-friendly collagen, bars, and a variety of keto foods.

The brand and their doctor-reviewed product lines differentiate themselves not only by abstaining from sugar, carbs, and the other “crowd pleasers,” but avoiding pro-inflammatory vegetable oils as well (that’s the sneaky part).

“We’ve got a full line of products all for the keto lifestyle,” said David Hauser, Chairman of the Board at Perfect Keto.

Hauser showed us Perfect Keto’s impressive looking products, including the brand’s new mac and cheese, which Hauser was proud to say is the first of its kind.

Lakanto

“We’re the company who actually bought monk fruit to market, and we love the fact that we can provide this sugar-free sweetener.”

Jason Gough, VP of Marketing at Lakanto

Harnessing the natural sweetness of monk fruit, a zero-calorie, zero-glycemic “sweetener” with use in traditional medicine dating back centuries, Lakanto is helping clear the name of zero-calorie sweeteners.

The stated mission of this now well-ensconced brand, founded in 2015, is not only to help their customers break their sugar addictions and lose weight while avoiding a host of inflammatory diseases, but to strengthen your life force (to the Asian cultures who documented using this small gourd, “chi”) for improved overall well-being.

“We’re the company who actually bought monk fruit to market, and we love the fact that we can provide this sugar-free sweetener,” said Jason Gough, the VP of Marketing at Lakanto. “Most of our products are vegan and gluten free, and we love the mission that we have.”

Gough also shared with us his own morning routine with Lakanto’s Keto Granola.

“This is my daily driver,” said Gough. “I start my day with keto granola from Lakanto, and I also mix it with heavy whipping cream. For you keto people, it’s fantastic way to start your day.”

Kiss My Keto

“I started the company six years ago to help people take control of their health, but without giving up the things that they love, like bread, candy, and bars.”

Alex Bird, Founder and CEO of Kiss My Keto

Hence the name, Kiss My Keto takes a bit more of a snarky approach to the challenges of keto dieting, as their general messaging is “I’ll have the foods I like and still not break my diet, thank you very much.”

That’s the exact sentiment Alex Bird, Founder and CEO of Kiss My Keto, displayed in our conversation with him.

“I started the company six years ago to help people take control of their health, but without giving up the things that they love, like bread, candy, and bars,” said Bird.

In order to accomplish this for their growing customer base, the company (founded in 2016) has been hard at work developing completely keto-friendly snacks, foods, breads, and more, all with little to no carbs, high protein, and a healthy aversion to the artificial stuff.

Chomps

“We work with the farmers there who really focus on regenerative agriculture,” said Clements. “And then we do almost nothing to this high-quality meat. We add some spices and that’s about it.”

Haley Clements, Manager at Chomps

Most of us semi-level-headed eaters have learned to give those preservative-embalmed meat sticks at the gas station a wide berth, but Chomps has totally revitalized this traditionally unhealthy product.

Established in 2012, Chomps has made it their mission to make protein-rich meat sticks a healthy option, offering sustainably sourced turkey, venison, and beef sticks with no hidden or harmful ingredients.

We spoke with Haley Clements, a Manager at Chomps, who told us a little more about what Chomps does with the meat they source from Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand.

“We work with the farmers there who really focus on regenerative agriculture,” said Clements. “And then we do almost nothing to this high-quality meat. We add some spices and that’s about it.”

We were encouraged to try every flavor they had on display, and we can say they tasted as great as she made them out to be.

Magic Spoon

While Magic Spoon’s booth stood out as fun and outlandish, their cereal felt recognizable with classic flavors like “Fruity” and “Cocoa,” and they tasted like you might remember, too.

Everybody loves cereal, but “no body” loves a 40-gram shot of sugar on an empty stomach, which is why Magic Spoon is changing the classic institution with what they call “Cereal 2.0.”

Established in 2019, Magic Spoon offers high-protein, grain-and-gluten-free, low-carb, zero-sugar cereals sweetened with monk fruit (a second shoutout to this amazing gourd).

Miracle Noodle

“We’ve created a line of keto meals, which makes sense because the noodles have essentially no carbs.”

Jonathan Carp, MD, CEO at Miracle Noodle

Founded in 2006 after CEO Jonathan Carp, MD discovered delicious shirataki noodles made from konnyaku—a root vegetable composed mostly of water and fiber—on a trip to Japan, Miracle Noodle brings a virtually no-carb noodle option to the Western world.

We had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Carp and he explained to us how Miracle Noodle is uniquely suited for keto lifestyles and diets.

“We’ve created a line of keto meals, which makes sense because the noodles have essentially no carbs,” said Carp. “So if you pair it with a low-carb sauce, you have this amazing bowl of noodles that have no carbs, no calories, but it’s something you can still enjoy.”
