Our Editorial Policy

Welcome to our Oilogic review!

This mom-founded brand was created to empower parents with natural remedies for kids (or themselves), whether you’re up against a stuffy nose, sleeping issues, or the other wonderful rites of toddlerhood.

Especially if your little one is less than a year old, you’re often limited to a fruitless pharmacy run—baby is too young for everything—or a wishy-washy product that doesn’t work, which is where Oilogic comes in.

With a growing selection of essential-oil-based sprays, roll-ons, bath products, chest rubs, and more for babies, toddlers, kids, and adults, Oilogic fancies themselves the cleaner alternative to most of the over-the-counter baby and toddler care products out there.

In our review, we put this claim to the test, taking a deeper dive into everything from sourcing and product development to customer service, eventually coming to an overall rating of A-.

Here’s everything you need to know about Oilogic—starting with a bit of background on the brand.

It Started At Home: The Oilogic Origin Story

In our conversation with Oilogic founder Worth Anne Herrell, we learned that the origin of the brand was very close to home—in fact, in her home.

As the mother of a young boy who was frequently sick, it didn’t take long for Worth Anne to become exasperated with round after round of antibiotics.

“It just made my little boy and myself miserable,” she told us, which motivated her to look into essential oils as an alternative to prescribed medications.

The research phase was a bit drawn out for Worth Anne, a working mom, but when she was ready to mobilize, she combined her background in consumer products with the expertise of co-founder Jordan to develop an essential-oil-based product for babies and kids like her own son.

Oilogic founder Worth Anne Herrell

Since then, Oilogic has been expanding their catalog of clean, natural remedies to help with stuffy noses, coughing, trouble sleeping, headaches, and more.

“Mom can feel good that it’s a natural option, and it’s a great, effective way to help baby,” said Worth Anne of the brand’s products.

On that note, let’s take a closer look, shall we?

Our Review

We use the following criteria when reviewing brands (Oilogic scores included):

  • Quality (A-)
  • Transparency (A)
  • Website Experience (B)
  • Customer Service (A-)
  • Value (A-)
  • Brand Value (A-)

This averages to an overall rating of A-, which we determined after plenty of product testing, independent research, and engaging with the Oilogic team.

First things, first, we have to start off with quality.

Quality

Summary:

Grade: A-

Oilogic maintains a staunch stance against phthalates, parabens, and other harmful ingredients while legitimizing their products with pediatrician approval and lab testing.

We always start off with the first impression—the packaging—which takes many forms in the case of Oilogic, as they sell roll-ons, sprays, bath products, and many more.

But without an essay, we can still provide a general appraisal of the packaging quality for the bags, boxes, and other containers we reviewed: they’re appropriately labeled, informative, and without any durability or usability issues.

Depending on the product, you may find a QR code that directs you to a video user guide, which is a nice perk.

Video user guides

As for ingredient quality, Oilogic made it clear even before we dug into the fine print that they don’t budge: there are no phthalates, dyes, parabens, petroleum, artificial colors, synthetic perfumes, or synthetic fragrances in their products.

Combing through their product catalog, we confirmed these claims.

The amount of essential oils in each product varies somewhat broadly based on its type, but you’ll usually find at least 4-5. Here are some examples from the Stuffy Nose & Cough Vapor Bath:

  • Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil
  • Abies Sibirica (Siberian Fir Needle) Oil
  • Eucalyptus Radiata (Eucalyptus) Leaf Oil
  • Lavandula Hybrida (Lavandin) Oil
  • Cupressus Sempervirens (Cypress) Leaf/Stem
  • Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil

As for the apparent formulation know-how, founders Jordan and Worth workshop formulation ideas before consulting with chemists and other experts, who “perfect the formulas before testing,” Worth explained.

Speaking of, ingredients are sourced from where they are indigenous—totaling 13 countries—and are always tested before manufacturing.

Also speaking of, Oilogic works with a couple of contract partners within the US to manufacture their products.

Taking into account the high ingredient quality, solid formulation and testing standards, and good (but not perfect) manufacturing oversight, Oilogic earns an A- for quality.

Oilogic Product Catalog Overview

Oilogic divides their products into three major categories: babies and toddlers, kids, and adults. Within those categories are several subcategories, such as stuffy nose & cough (babies and toddlers), bug bites and itches (kids), and headache and tension (adults).

Babies and Toddlers

Home to many of Oilogic’s most popular products, the babies and toddlers selection features plenty of gentle, essential-oil-based remedies for cough, stuffy nose, sleeping issues, and more.

Some of the most popular baby Oilogic products include the Stuffy Nose & Cough Vapor Bath, Stuffy Nose & Cough Essential Roll-On, and Slumber & Sleep Essential Oil Linen Mist.

Each product is pediatrician and dermatologist tested.

Kids

As you might expect, the kids products target many of the same issues as the baby and toddler selection, but with the addition of remedies for allergies, bug bites, attention issues, and more.

The Attention & Focus Essential Oil Roll uses cedarwood oil, bergamot oil, clove oil, and more to create a natural calming effect.

Other popular products in the kids category include the Sneeze & Allergy Essential Roll-On, the Kids Stuffy Nose & Cough Essential Oil Vapor Bath, and a Cold & Cough Essential Oil Roll-On.

Summary:

Grade: A

The Oilogic website is informative, yet welcoming, covering all the major bases in terms of product information, the brand story and personnel, and other insights discerning customers look for.

Landing on the Our Story page of the Oilogic site, we were presented with a personal, fluff-free account of the founding story behind Oilogic, along with pictures of the founders and the rest of the Oilogic team.

The product pages were equally transparent, providing some insights into the formulation rationale as well as usage guides, ingredient information, and more, but a general breakdown of how the active ingredients actually work would have been welcome.

The site also provides at least an outline of the supply chain, explaining how many locations the imported ingredients come from as well as the fact that they’re made in the USA.

We don’t get much detail into how the products are made, although the site does explain that the roll-ons are handmade, crafted, and poured.

The shipping, return, and privacy policies are easy to access and clearly delineated, thanks to footer links—you’d be surprised how many brands make you dig.

Finally, Worth Anne was very forthcoming in our interview, providing clear answers without deflecting questions or omitting key details.
Overall, we left the Oilogic site (and our interview) feeling sufficiently clued in on all the major points consumers would want to know about Oilogic, earning them an A for transparency.

Website Experience

Summary:

Grade: B

The Oilogic website is easy to use and informative when it comes to product guides, team member bios, and more, but fleshing out the general knowledge base (how the ingredients actually work, etc.) would be helpful.

Starting with the shopping experience—we review ecommerce sites, after all—Oilogic makes it simple and efficient, if not a bit low-tech. You won’t find fancy widgets or filters on their category pages, but it’s a fairly easy shopping experience nonetheless.

Products are divided into major categories and subcategories (see our breakdown of the product catalog above), and the setup on each subcategory page is standard: image, price tag, click to buy.

As for the knowledge base, Oilogic doesn’t have a consolidated page or section that provides a thorough introduction to the science behind their products, their formulation strategy, and so on.

The About Our Oils page certainly helps, recouping a lot of credit, but a more fleshed-out foundation of some of the basic mechanisms of action associated with the ingredients would be ideal.

Website Experience

They also have a selection of convenient user guides in video format that stressed-out parents are sure to be thankful for, and the product pages are informative, but more in a practical versus educational manner.

Finally, the site functioned without any formatting issues whatsoever on both desktop and mobile devices, including wonky image sizing, elements being off alignment, etc.

The website experience is a positive one overall, but a more robust knowledge base would be a huge asset to discerning parents trying to learn more about how essential oils actually work in the body.
Balancing the strengths with the weaknesses here, we land on a B for website experience.

Customer Service

Summary:

Grade: A-

Oilogic customer support staff provided our reviewers with quick and accurate responses on both their phone and email services. Their return policy is less accommodating, but free shipping (over $40) helps.

Both the human side of customer service and the fine print (shipping/return policies) are fair game for this part of the review.

Starting with the shipping and return policies, Oilogic shoppers can get free shipping on orders of $39.95 and up—not bad.

If you don’t hit that threshold, you’ll pay one of six shipping prices based on the weight of your order. The cost ranges from $4.99 to $16.99, which seems reasonable considering the higher end of the range applies to orders as heavy as 15 lbs.

The return policy gives you 30 days from the time of purchase, but the item must be completely unused and in the original packaging.

The time window is reasonable, but this policy offers little recourse for anyone who actually tries a product and is unsatisfied for whatever reason.

As for customer support options, Oilogic offers a phone line as well as an email address.

Customer Service

We held for less than a minute when testing the phone service, after which a helpful and polite agent accurately answered our question.

Balancing an excellent customer service response with a bit of room for improvement on the policy side, we settled on an A- for customer service.

Value

Summary:

Grade: A-

As expected, Oilogic products are on the pricier side when taking all baby care options (e.g., Vick’s VapoRub) into account, but the price hike is commensurate with the clear step up in quality.

Due to variances in container sizes and active ingredient concentrations throughout the competition as well as Oilogic’s unique ingredient lists, making apples-to-apples comparisons on price is difficult, but not impossible.

To at least provide some general context, we compared two of Oilogic’s more popular products: Slumber & Sleep Essential Oil Linen Mist ($6.99/4oz) and Stuffy Nose and Cough Vapor Chest Rub ($9.99/.49 oz) to a few of their closest competitors.

Value

Noodle and Boo linen mist is $14 for 16 ounces, which is about half the price per ounce as Oilogic’s linen mist. As for the chest rub, PlantTherapy Quiet Cough is $16.99 for ⅓ oz, which is more expensive than Oilogic, but you can get a 2-ounce tub of good ole Vick’s VapoRub for about $7.

This range is representative of most of the selections we compared: there’s a tier of comparably high-quality options at or above the Oilogic price point, and plenty of cheaper options (like Vick’s) that use petroleum and fragrance.

You’re definitely paying a premium for Oilogic, but even though it sounds contradictory on the value front, we actually appreciate the smaller quantities ($7 for 4 oz versus $14 for 16 ounces with the competitor) because many of these products will only be used when your child is sick.

As parents ourselves, we know how frustrating it is to throw away expired products when you need them the most, so having smaller quantities actually makes more sense in these applications.

Taking into account price, how the quality compares against it, and what the competitors are charging, Oilogic earns an A- from our team for value.

Brand Value

Summary:

Grade: A-

Tight testing and safety standards combined with a broad product catalog covering many use cases and age groups make a strong case for Oilogic’s brand value.

Each brand has their own way of elevating the state of their industry and giving back to communities, so we cast a wide net when looking for brand value points to grade. Some key examples include:

  • Innovation
  • Philanthropy
  • Sustainability
  • Institutional Knowledge

While Oilogic hasn’t necessarily pioneered entirely new product ideas, they have conveniently consolidated a selection of essential-oil-based roll-ons, topicals, sprays, and bath products that parents usually have to piece together from multiple sources.

This versatility combined with a product selection that accommodates your baby as they grow into a toddler and then a kiddo covers a ton of use cases, from bug bites to congestion—not to mention you can use some of the products much earlier than most pharmacy meds.

Brand Value

The 100% PCR (post-consumer resin) bottles and Oilogic’s push to soon become carbon neutral earn them some solid sustainability points, but we didn’t find a whole lot in the way of charity, philanthropy, etc.

As for the knowledge behind the brand, the combination of personal experience (the founders being mothers) and technical expertise (pediatricians and chemists) is reassuring for customers looking for the safest possible solution for their little ones.

Overall, we get the impression that Oilogic is committed to improving the state of baby and toddler care with a diverse range of lab-tested products and a stubborn refusal to cut corners on ingredients, earning them an A- for brand value.

Our Experience

Our team received and tested the following products from Oilogic:

Our team received and tested the following products from Oilogic:Oilogic Kids Slumber & Sleep Vapor Bath SoakOilogic Baby Stuffy Nose & Cough Vapor BathOilogic Baby Stuffy Nose & Cough Vapor Chest Rub

Though none of our “compulsory volunteers” (all under the age of five) were experiencing cough or congestion during the review period, they still had plenty to say about the smell and sensation associated with each product.

First, the Oilogic Kids Slumber and Sleep Vapor Bath Soak went over well in the smell department, and as tub-side participants, we were able to confirm our toddlers’ reports of that sweet and slightly earthy lavender aroma—you can check the ingredients here.

Slumber & Sleep Essential Oil Vapor Bath Soak

Importantly, we experienced no stinging of the eyes or nostrils, even when coming very close to the treated bathwater.

Decidedly more “woodsy” in its aroma, but not to the extent of turning our testers’ noses up, was Baby Oilogic Stuffy Nose & Cough Vapor Bath

Oilogic Stuffy nose & cough

Where the kid’s version features lavender and chamomile oil, it makes sense that the Baby version comes off a bit more herbal on the nose, as it has lavandin oil, fir needle oil, eucalyptus oil, cypress oil, and more.

Either way, our young testers responded in the same way as they did with the other bath product—although this one was reported to have a “berry mint” flavor according to our focus group leader.

Keep in mind, neither of these products are meant to produce a lot of bubbles, so if you have kids, it’s better to make it about the smell so they don’t get their hopes up.

Finally, the Oilogic Baby Stuffy Nose & Cough Vapor Chest Rub was the favorite among both the testers and us, their parents, for a few reasons.

Oilogic Baby Stuffy Nose & Cough Vapor Chest Rub

It smells great, goes on easy, and produces that strong “vapor action” feeling most of us associate with Vick’s or similar products.

Overall, our surface-level experiences with the products were consistent with high-quality essential oil blends we’ve tried in the past.

The aroma in each case was true to the ingredients with no suggestion of harsh preservatives that threw off the scent and/or irritated the skin, eyes, etc.

Oilogic FAQ

Is Baby Oilogic safe?

Made with lab-tested essential oil blends, Baby Oilogic products are safe to use under normal circumstances.

However, if you have any reason to suspect your baby may have an adverse reaction to the product(s), or if you have any other questions, it’s still a wise practice to consult with a healthcare practitioner prior to use.

What does Oilogic do?

Oilogic makes essential oil blends for babies, kids, and adults to relieve coughing, headache, sleep issues, and other forms of discomfort.

Their products come in a variety of formats, including roll-ons, vapor rubs, mists, and more, and are free of parabens, phthalates, dyes, and other harmful ingredients.

Who owns Oilogic?

Jordan Morrow and Worth Anne Herrell are the founders and managing partners of Oilogic.

Can I use Oilogic on my 2-month-old?

It depends on the product, so make sure to closely review the usage guidelines, which will answer this question.

To provide some examples, Oilogic Stuffy Nose & Cough Vapor Bath is recommended for babies at 3 months of age or higher, but the Slumber & Sleep Essential Oil Linen Mist (which isn’t applied directly to baby) has no minimum age recommendation.

Final Thoughts

Founded by two moms on a mission to cut out all the harsh ingredients, Oilogic is a baby and toddler care brand (with adult products too) that uses high-quality essential oil blends to provide relief for stuffy nose, sleeping issues, coughing, and more.

The products are made in the USA with ingredients sourced from their native countries, approved by pediatricians, and tested in a lab setting for safety and purity.

Save for a bit of polishing on the website content and a restrictive return policy, the Oilogic online shopping/learning experience is informative and welcoming.

Finally, you’ll pay a premium for Oilogic as compared to some over-the-counter products, but among similarly clean essential oil blends, their products are often right in the middle or on the cheaper end.

We recommend Oilogic, who received an overall rating of A-, to anyone looking for a safe way to help their little one overcome discomfort and—thank goodness—get some sleep.
