Slumber Review: Can CBN Gummies Help You Sleep?

SHARE

As you may guess from the name, Slumber is best known for providing sleep supplements, but their lineup includes much more, including gummies and extracts for stress, anxiety, focus, libido, and inflammation.

Slumber’s most popular products contain cannabinol (CBN), a cannabinoid thought to promote sleep—but do they actually work (and what the heck is CBN, anyway?). Find out that and more in this review of Slumber and a few of its best-selling products.

Slumber Review Summary (Grade: A-)

Slumber offers a wide range of research-backed sleep, stress, and wellness supplements, primarily based on CBN, CBD, THC, and herbal extracts. While we love the third-party lab testing for quality assurance and purity, Slumber is a tad expensive, lacks sustainability initiatives, and does not have certifications.

  • Pros
  • Wide product variety for sleep, stress, focus, libido, and more
  • Various supplement forms (gummies, tinctures, capsules)
  • Research-backed with independent sleep study
  • Provides third-party lab results
  • Cons

  • Lack of certifications

Best-Selling Slumber Products

Some categories of gummies, capsules, and tinctures you can find include those for sleep, stress relief, focus, metabolic support, inflammation, and even libido. Let’s take a look at some of their top sellers.

Deep Zzzs Sleep Gummies

Deep Zzzs Sleep Gummies

Slumber’s best-known product is the Deep Zzzs sleep gummies, which contain 25mg CBD, 3mg THC (from delta-9), and 8mg CBN.

While you’ve probably heard of CBD (cannabidiol) by now, CBN is a lesser-known but similar compound. CBN (cannabinol) forms when THC (the psychoactive component of marijuana) ages and breaks down, providing a light sedative effect that is good for sleep.

Conversely, CBD is extracted directly from hemp or cannabis, has no psychoactive effects, and is beneficial for anxiety, stress, inflammation, and pain management.

Here’s what you can find in the Deep Zzzs gummies:

Other ingredients include: Tapioca Syrup, Organic Cane Sugar, Distilled Water, Fruit Pectin, Natural Flavors, Full Spectrum CBD Distillate, Sodium Citrate, CBN Isolate, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, CBD Isolate, & Natural Colors.

You may wonder why you can purchase THC gummies online, and the answer is because it’s derived from delta-9. In the United States, delta-9 is considered federally legal if it’s derived from hemp (which this is) and contains less than 0.3% THC by dry weight (which this does).

Rest & Renew Mushroom Sleep Gummies

Another popular product for sleep is the Rest & Renew, which are reishi mushroom gummies with other herbs and plant extracts.

Rest & Renew Mushroom Sleep Gummies

Rest & Renew Mushroom gummies utilize a potent dose of reishi extract, a microdose of melatonin (just 500 micrograms!), organic chamomile and passionflower, and a bioavailable form of magnesium to support sleep.

We love the microdose of melatonin, as many melatonin supplements typically use 3–5 milligrams per serving, which can cause grogginess in the morning.

In the Mood Libido Gummies

In the Mood Libido Gummies

A lesser-talked-about wellness category is libido and sexual health, which Slumber is addressing with their In the Mood gummies.

These gummies are loaded with herbal extracts and adaptogens like ashwagandha, maca root, theobromine, muira puama, and horny goat weed (yes, that’s the real name!) that have been studied for their role in sexual health and libido.

But we’ll leave it at that—we’re verging into NSFW territory here!

Slumber Review

Ingredients & Formulation (A)

Slumber knows what it’s doing when it comes to dosages and formulation. With very specific doses of CBN to CBD to THC, their products are well-formulated and contain clinically-backed ingredients.

In addition to third-party lab testing (which we’ll go over in the next section), Slumber conducted an at-home sleep study in partnership with MoreBetter.

This study evaluated the effectiveness of their Deep Zzzs CBN Gummies over a 30-day period, finding that people reported improvements in sleep quality and duration, with an average increase of 72 minutes of sleep per night (impressive!). The participants also had 71% reductions in anxiety, stress, and pain and reported waking up 1.5 fewer times throughout the night.

The other products are also well-formulated. For example, Rest & Renew Mushroom gummies utilize a potent dose of reishi extract, a microdose of melatonin, and a highly bioavailable form of magnesium to help with sleep and relaxation.

Transparency & Certifications (A)

Slumber does a great job of providing in-depth third-party testing results for every batch of each product.

The Certificate of Analysis (COA) test results from a third party verify the potency and purity of each product—for example, take a look at the Deep ZZZs COA here.

They also are transparent with their hemp sourcing (from Colorado), but not for the ingredients in other products.

Plus, while some of their products use organic ingredients (like organic hemp, reishi, and chamomile, for example), Slumber does not carry any certifications.

Sustainability (C)

Slumber is slacking a bit on the sustainability front—all we could find in terms of eco-conscious measures is that they grow their organic hemp in Colorado (where the company is based, keeping it local) and use several organic ingredients.

Value (B+)

At $60 for 30 servings, the Deep Zzzs are definitely on the pricey side—yep, that’s $2 per serving. However, the auto-ship option (30% off) drops the price to $1.40/serving.

That said, $2 per serving seems to be on par in the world of CBN gummies—like these from BATCH, which are exactly the same price (although they have double the amount of CBN).

Although it’s a little difficult to compare the products because they are so unique, Plantpeople is a similar mushroom gummy to Rest & Renew. Plantpeople’s Wonder Mushroom gummies are $35 for 30 servings ($1.16/serving), while Rest & Renew is $49 for 30 servings ($1.63/serving).

Overall, Slumber is a bit expensive, but so are most CBN/CBD gummies. Plus, the auto-subscribe feature gives a highly impressive 30% discount, which makes Slumber products very reasonably priced.

Packaging

Before we dive into the effectiveness of each product sampled, let’s discuss the packaging.

Each of these products is fairly easy to open, even with the push-and-turn tops. This is good for those who may have accessibility problems, yet also adds an extra layer of security between the product and curious kids.

Packaging

The label and instructions are very clear and easy to understand. However, the Deep Zzzs could enhance the text size of the active ingredients (CBD, Delta-9 THC, and CBN). It can be a little hard to read, even as someone with 20/20 vision, and if an unassuming family member or friend were to take one of these (thinking it’s melatonin) they might be in for a fun surprise!

Effectiveness

That said, when it comes to the effects of the Deep Zzzs, it definitely had similar effects to a real THC gummy, including some cotton mouth and an overall feeling of relaxation. I don’t think it would cause any issues if someone accidentally took it. They would just get a really good night’s sleep, as intended! I know I sure did.

As for the Rest & Renew, I didn’t feel anywhere near the same effect as the Deep Zzzs, but I did still sleep well. I would definitely give it a try if you want to avoid the effects that THC and CBD give you.

The In The Mood gummies… well, it’s a little awkward to say exactly what did or didn’t happen. However, let’s just say I did not feel much of an effect with these. Maybe if I took them more regularly, they might have some effect. It’s hard to say, but it certainly wasn’t the sock-on-the-door knob effect that the dosing instructions imply.

Taste

The taste of all three products is pretty good overall, especially the Rest & Renew.

However, the In The Mood gummies definitely had a bit of aftertaste, which—when you’re trying to get frisky—isn’t exactly the best way to set the tone.

The Deep Zzzs did have a bit of a “weed” taste to them, which is to be expected but not at all unpleasant.

Key Takeaways: Is Slumber Worth It?

If you have trouble sleeping and want to avoid melatonin, Slumber Deep Zzzs are likely a worth-it purchase, as they work well, have high-quality ingredients, and clinically backed dosages. Slumber also has a wide array of products we did not try, but it seems that the ingredients and formulations are also on par.

The In The Mood gummies use ingredients that are all clinically proven to be libido boosters, but your experience could definitely vary, as did ours. That said, if you’re looking for a place to start with sexual health supplements, Slumber isn’t a bad first-line product to try.

The Rest & Renew gummies are a fabulous option for those who don’t or can’t consume THC or its derivatives. The functional ingredients are high-quality and can, over time, deliver a great night’s sleep for those looking to boost their rest and recuperation.

We would love Slumber a smidge more if they had some sustainability measures or eco-conscious efforts in place, but overall, we enjoyed the products and would recommend them.
